When floodwaters damage our homes, it’s important to restore them to a clean and safe state. The following steps will help you clean up your flooded home effectively.
1. Prepare for safety
Before cleaning, wear full protective gear such as long-sleeved shirts, rubber gloves, boots, and face masks to prevent contact with germs, chemicals, or venomous animals that may be hidden in the flood. Don't forget to check the electrical system for safety first.
2. Clear the area
Move as many items and furniture as possible out of the house. Open doors and windows to ventilate and reduce humidity, but do not turn on the air conditioner because it may suck germs into the system. Dispose of all waste properly.
3. Prepare cleaning equipment
In addition to personal protective equipment, prepare various cleaning equipment such as brooms, floor brushes, buckets, black bags, tissue paper, and cleaning products such as detergent, baking soda, alcohol, or disinfectant.
4. Start cleaning
Spray water to remove dirt, scrub with a brush or broom, and use cleaning products as appropriate. If mold stains are found, avoid spraying water. Instead, use alcohol or a baking soda mixture and leave it for 15-30 minutes before rinsing with clean water.
5. Dry
After cleaning is complete, let the area dry completely by exposing it to sunlight or using a fan to remove moisture and prevent mold growth sustainably.
By following these steps carefully, your home will be clean, safe and ready to welcome you back.
Best wishes
